Punctal Plugs
Punctal Plugs
Punctal plugs are small medical devices used to treat dry eye syndrome by blocking the drainage of tears through the puncta, which are tiny openings in the eyelids that drain tears into the nose. By occluding the puncta, punctal plugs help to retain more moisture on the surface of the eye, providing relief from dryness and irritation. Punctal plugs are primarily used to treat moderate to severe dry eye disease, particularly in patients whose eyes don’t produce enough tears or have a high rate of tear drainage.
