Cataracts

Cataracts are clouding of the eye`s clear lens, like a window that is “fogged” with steam. When the lens becomes cloudy, light rays cannot pass through it easily and vision becomes blurry. Cataracts are not a growth or a film over the eye.

Cataracts start out small and have little effect of vision at first. But as the cataract grows so does the impact on your vision. Everyone will develop cataracts, as it develops when you age and your lens becomes cloudy. You might have developed cataracts if you experience, painless yet blurry vision, sensitivity to light and glaring lights, double vision in one eye and or poor night vision.

Although cataracts usually develop as part of the aging process they can also result from, eye injuries, certain diseases such as diabetes, genetic inheritance, certain medications frequent unprotected exposure to UV-a and UV-B rays of light.

Currently there are no medications that can cause cataracts to dissolve, however if cataracts do not interfere with your life you might not do anything with them.

When they do begin to interfere with daily life, cataracts can be treated surgically. After surgery most patients regain useful vision. Laser treatment is sometimes used after cataract surgery to remove a film that can occasionally grow on the lens.

Cataract surgery is s procedure that is done once on each eye. There are two options for cataract surgery, routine cataract surgery and bladeless laser cataract surgery. In routine cataract surgery, surgeon makes a tiny incision in the eye and removes the old cloudy lens by hand. Then one the lens is thoroughly removed the surgeon will insert a new lens referred to as an intraocular lens. In Bladeless laser cataract surgery, a precision laser operated by the surgeon makes an extremely precise incision and breaks up the lens, this allows the surgeon to more remove the lens with more precision and leaves less room for error.

When it comes to intraocular lens, there is a variety if lens that can be placed in the eye. Standard lens are less expensive but only allow for clear vision at one distance either close or far away.
